HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2018-283 C ITY OF P LYMOUTH R ESOLUTION N O. 2018-283 R ESOLUTION A PPROVING THE T EMPORARY C LOSURE OF W EST M EDICINE L AKE P ARK B OAT L AUNCH WHEREAS, West Medicine Lake Park boat launch, located on the north end of West Medicine Lake Park, provides property owners abutting Medicine Lake seasonal access transitioning their watercraft on and off the lake; and WHEREAS, the boat launch is only open the last three weekends in May and the first three weekends in September; and WHEREAS, the launch is used on a limited basis by the City during the summer months for beach maintenance and during the winter months for access to Medicine Lake; and WHEREAS, the Association of Medicine Lake Area Citizens (AMLAC) presented a petition requesting the West Medicine Lake Park boat launch remain closed in September due to the recent discovery of “starry stonewort,” an invasive species found in the lake; and WHEREAS, the closure would ensure that all boats exiting the lake go through an inspection and decontamination process at the Clifton French Regional Park launch on the north side of the lake; and WHEREAS, Three Rivers Park District supports the closure of West Medicine Lake Park boat launch and is requesting continued financial assistance of $1,200 from the Parks and Forestry budget for the watercraft inspection program as identified in the Cooperative Agreement. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA, that the temporary closure of West Medicine Lake Park boat launch for the scheduled weekends of September 1-3, September 8-9, and September 15-16, 2018 is approved. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that staff is authorized to provide Three Rivers Park District $1,200 of financial assistance per the Cooperative Agreement. APPROVED by the City Council on this 28th day of August, 2018.
