May 16 open house set to gather resident input about renovation,
potential expansion of Plymouth Creek Center
Plymouth, Minn. – The City of Plymouth will host the first of three open houses to gather community
input about the future of the Plymouth Creek Center 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16 at Plymouth Creek
Center, 14800 34th Ave. N.
Two additional open houses at the Plymouth Creek Center are slated for 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, June
26 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13.
Since it was built in 2000, the Plymouth Creek Center has emerged as an important hub of community
life. It has brought people together for senior activities, recreation programs, socializing and celebrating
life’s milestones. But after nearly two decades of use, the activity center is in need of maintenance and
updates.
The open house is the first step in a multi-pronged community engagement process to garner feedback
about how the center should be renovated or potentially expanded to meet the changing demands of a
growing community.
The open house will give residents a chance to speak with staff, share their thoughts on interactive
boards and learn about other options for providing feedback.
Serving a Growing Population
Since the Plymouth Creek Center was constructed in 2000, Plymouth’s population has increased by
more than 10,000. That growth has spiked Creek Center usage, and has left the existing building
struggling to meet the demand for space.
The facility currently hosts senior programs, recreation programming, weddings, rentals and more.
“Many of the building’s rooms aren’t suited to current recreation programming needs and participation
levels. Additionally, rental demand has outpaced capacity,” said Plymouth Creek Center Manager Chris
Fleck.

A feasibility study conducted last year examined concerns about the Creek Center’s ability to meet
current and future needs. The study confirmed that high demand has caused programming limitations at
the facility. However, before plans are developed or an expansion is considered, Plymouth wants to hear
from residents.
More Ways to Offer Feedback
Public input about the Plymouth Creek Center will also be collected several other ways.
Social Pinpoint: An interactive, web-based feedback platform, Social Pinpoint will allow residents to
help shape the specifics of a potential project by leaving comments and suggestions. Social Pinpoint can
be accessed at plymouthmn.gov/PCCProject May 15 to Aug. 28.
FlashVote: An online survey tool, FlashVote will be used to gauge community interest. A simple, one-
minute survey will be sent to registered FlashVote users Tuesday, July 17. Residents will have 48 hours
to complete the survey. To register, visit plymouthmn.gov/FlashVote.
Interactive Boards: Interactive presentation boards will be available May 15 to Aug. 28 at the Plymouth
Creek Center and Parks and Recreation offices at Plymouth City Hall, 3400 Plymouth Blvd. The boards
will mirror information presented through Social Pinpoint.
Residents are encouraged to provide input throughout this process in one or more ways.
Stay up to Date
Residents can stay up to date on the project, learn about ways to provide input and sign up for
eNotifications at plymouthmn.gov/PCCProject.
Cutline:
The Plymouth Creek Center site includes an activity center, fieldhouse and Millennium Garden. A recent
feasibility study confirmed that high demand has caused programming limitations at the activity center.
The city will host an open house May 16 to gather resident input about the future of the facility. .

Plant and Pull Day set for May 19
Plymouth, Minn. – Residents are asked to volunteer to help beautify Plymouth and benefit the
environment during the citywide Plant and Pull Day, set for Saturday, May 19.
Participants will plant flowering annuals near city parks and facilities during the event, as well as pull the
invasive garlic mustard plant in woodland areas.
To volunteer for Plant and Pull Day, call 763-509-5230 or email volunteer@plymouthmn.gov.
About Garlic Mustard
Garlic mustard aggressively monopolizes light, moisture, nutrients, soil and space – and outcompetes
many native plants that provide food and habitat for pollinators like butterflies and bees.
When garlic mustard replaces native plants, many wildlife species are deprived of essential food sources
that provide foliage, pollen, nectar, fruits, seeds and roots.
Named for the odor of garlic the plant gives off when the leaves are crushed, garlic mustard is a biennial
herb with stalked, triangular to heart-shaped, coarsely toothed leaves. Flowering plants are 2 to 3 1/2
feet tall and produce clusters of small white flowers, each with four petals.
The plant’s entire root system must be removed to prevent new plants from sprouting.
Plymouth city staff are asking residents to keep an eye out for the invasive garlic mustard plant this year
–and help remove it.
