HomeMy WebLinkAboutPark and Recreation Advisory Commission Minutes 10-12-20171 Approved Minutes October 12, 2017 Approved Minutes Park & Recreation Advisory Commission Thursday, October 12, 2017 MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Merrilee Riley, Commissioners: Dick Burkhardt, Tricia DeBleeckere, Marilyn Sunseri, Michael Swanson MEMBERS ABSENT: Vice Chair Aaron Vanderwall STAFF PRESENT: Plymouth Ice Center Manager Bill Abel, Plymouth Ice Center Manager Erik Halverson COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES: Councilmember Jim Davis GUESTS: 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Riley called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motioned and seconded, recommending approval of the September 14, 2017 Park and Recreation Advisory Commission meeting minutes with corrections as noted. With all members voting in favor, the motion carried. 3. OPEN FORUM: 4. PRESENTATIONS (NON-ACTION ITEMS): 4a. New PIC Manager – Erik Halverson Erik Halverson has joined the Plymouth Parks & Recreation Department on September 6 as the new PIC Manager. He will take over facility management upon Bill Abel’s retirement. Erik’s experience includes working at the Minneapolis Convention Center and St. Cloud State University, where he was the coordinator of sports facilities. 5b. PIC Operations/Usage – Bill Abel & Erik Halverson The Plymouth Ice Center will be hosting the national USA Hockey Sled Classic November 16-19. Teams from all around the United States and Canada will be playing at the PIC. City volunteers will be assisting during the games helping players transport their b ags and sleds. The Wayzata Youth Hockey Association, Wayata High School Hockey teams, and Providence Academy Hockey teams are also working many volunteer shifts over the weekend. Admission to the tournament is free. 5. NEW BUSINESS (ACTION ITEMS): 2 Approved Minutes October 12, 2017 6. COMMISSIONER/STAFF UPDATE Staff will be hosting an Open House for the upcoming Medina Road Trail Gap project on November 9 from 5:30-7:30pm. The Open House will be held at Plymouth City Hall. All Commissioners are welcome to attend to hear feedback from residents. The Wedding Expo will be held Saturday, November 4 at the Plymouth Creek Center. Tickets are available at the door. Visitors can meet with a variety of wedding vendors including floral, catering, photography, entertainment and more. The Kids Garage Sale will be held Sunday, November 5 at the Plymouth Creek Center. Shoppers are welcome to stop in to purchase gently used treasures from young sellers. A tour of the PIC was provided to Commissioners. 7. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Commissioner DeBleeckere, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, recommending adjournment of the Park and Recreation Advisory Commission meeting. With no objection, Chair Riley adjourned the meeting at 7:40 p.m.
