ACTION REQUESTED: The Council should review and provide direction to staff regarding the future of the Plymouth Historical Society and appropriate funding, as deemed necessary. 2. BACKGROUND: The Plymouth Historical Society was incorporated October 14, 1975. The Plymouth Historical Society is operated out of Plymouth's Old Town Hall at 3605 Fernbrook Lane. The City owns the Old Town Hall building and the land that it resides on. The Old Town Hall was built in 1885 and is open 1-2 times per month for visitors. The mission of the Historical Society is to continue the discovery, preservation and dissemination of historical knowledge about the City of Plymouth. Plymouth Historical Society board members met with Parks and Recreation staff in August 2017 to discuss the possibility of turning over the operation of the Plymouth Historical Society to the City. At this time, the board consists of six members; Dennis Jacobson, Betty Jacobson, Gary Schiebe, Vern Dotseth, Ben Broman and Paul Ellefson. The board members propose to disband their current 501C4 status, turn their funds over to the City (approximately $10,000), and have the City run the operation.
