HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2017-207 C ITY OF P LYMOUTH R ESOLUTION N O. 2017-207 R ESOLUTION S UPPORTING C APITAL A PPROPRIATION R EQUEST F OR T HE P LYMOUTH I CE C ENTER WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota has funded the expansion, renovation, or construction of convention, civic center, arenas, and sporting facilities for various larger cities throughout the State of Minnesota; and WHEREAS, the City of Plymouth has owned and operated the Plymouth Ice Center (PIC), a regional recreation facility, since 1996; and WHEREAS, the City has identified in its Capital Improvement Program, essential infrastructure and maintenance improvements to the PIC that will ensure the safe and long-term demands of the prominent regional recreational sports facility; and WHEREAS, the improvements will result in significant energy savings for the facility; and WHEREAS, in 2014, 2015, and 2016, the City requested state bonding appropriations of $2.2 million to help finance improvements at the Plymouth Ice Center (PIC) which were not granted; and WHEREAS, in the last several years, the City has completed or is in the process of completing $2.9 million of the $4.2 million of improvements; and WHEREAS, for 2018, the City is requesting a state bonding appropriation of $1.3 million to complete Plymouth Ice Center Improvements; and WHEREAS, local governments must submit preliminary requests by June 16, 2017 to the Minnesota Management and Budget office. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA supports the Capital Appropriation Request for 2018 in the amount of $1.3 million to the State of Minnesota for Plymouth Ice Center improvements. APPROVED by the City Council on this 13th day of June, 2017.
