SUBJECT: Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Buses
Just a reminder that next Tuesday, June 26`}', at 6:30 p.m. prior to the regular City Council
meeting, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony and press photo opportunity for the new
Plymouth Metrolink buses. The ceremony will be held outside the front door of City Hall in the
driving circle and will be brief. I hope you can all be present.
We will have one each of the three different buses we recently purchased — a Blue Bird CS bus
the largest), a Blue Bird TranShuttle (somewhat smaller) and an El Dorado Aerotech bus (the
smallest for Dial -A -Ride). We purchased 10 of the CS buses, 6 of the TranShuttles and 7 of the
El Dorados. The total cost of these buses was $2,872,900 of which $2,218,474 came from
federal transit grants. The remaining $654,426 was paid from the accrued Plymouth Metrolink
Budget Carryover Funds.
With these buses we were able to replace all of the old local shuttle buses and Dial -A -Ride buses
which were "affectionately" known as the "prison buses." Also, we are now able to expand
transit services to serve the new Park & Ride lots currently under construction and to serve new
areas of the City. All of these new services will be implemented by October 1, 2001.
I look forward to seeing you on the
261h. If you have any questions please call me at 763-509-
5521.
