We are proposing a Regional Human Rights Dialogue, and would like to invite you to consider participation by your Human Rights Commission (or City if you have no established commission). Right now it is just a concept, but a kick-off event to introduce the concept and get your ideas is planned for the evening of September 24, 1998. As diversity increases in our communities, human rights work becomes ever more important for all of us. We hone you agree. and will be able to attend. We are inviting the City Council Members and Human Rights Commissioners from Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Champlin, Crystal, Golden Valley; Maple Grove, New Hope, Plymouth and Robbinsdale to participate. Many facets of our communities overlap, including school districts and churches. We have been involved in many cooperative initiatives in the past, and these cities seem like a natural focal point for our efforts. Our cities are faced with similar issues and tasks. We can share ideas and maximize the impact of valuable training and thought-provoking speakers. There seem to be so many benefits to a joint initiative, but we need to look at the busy schedule and heavy agenda that cities are already undertaking and see how we can complement, not burden our audience. We need your ideas on how to plan a regional dialogue that will enhance the human rights efforts in all of our cities. Please mark you calendars and plan to attend the fall kick-off. Details of the event will be available this summer. We are working with Northwest Hennepin Human Services Council to plan a great event. In the mean time, plan to attend and call if you have ideas that you wish to share in advance of the meeting.
