HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2011-116CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION 2011-116 SUPPORTING HENNEPIN COUNTY SHERIFF'S NEW REGIONAL 911 EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS FACILITY WHEREAS, the City of Plymouth values public safety as a core service of government; and WHEREAS, reliable emergency communications is a critical component in the delivery of public safety; and WHEREAS, the City of Plymouth has received police and fire dispatch service from the Hennepin County Sheriff s Office since 1958, with over 56,000 dispatch events handled in 2010 within Plymouth; and WHEREAS, the Hennepin County Sheriff s Office currently provides dispatch to 36 entities across Hennepin County from a 60 plus year-old building in Golden Valley scheduled to be replaced in 2012/2013 with a new facility on county -owned property in Plymouth, adjacent to the Adult Correctional Facility at Parkers Lake; and WHEREAS, the new Hennepin County Sheriff s Office emergency communications facility is important to public safety. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Plymouth supports the constriction of a new Hennepin County Sheriff s Office Regional 911 Communications Facility; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that due to the regional nature of this project, the City of Plymouth encourages the Minnesota State Legislature and Federal Elected Officials to support this project through state bonding and state and federal grants. Adopted by the Plymouth City Council on April 12, 2011.
