HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1998-224CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION NO. 98 - 224 PROCLAIMING APRIL 23, 1998 AS YOM HASHOAH, THE DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR HOLOCAUST VICTIMS, IN THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA WHEREAS, the Holocaust was the state-sponsored, systematic persecution and annihilation by Nazi Germany and its collaborators of six million European Jews and others during the period 1933 and 1945; and WHEREAS, teaching children about the Holocaust keeps alive the memory of the millions who perished, more than 1.5 million of whom were children; and WHEREAS, the people of the City of Plymouth, Minnesota should remain vigilant against bigotry and tyranny, and rededicate ourselves to the principles of equality and justice, and respect for all peoples; and WHEREAS, pursuant to an Act of Congress, the United States Holocaust Memorial Council designates the Days of Remembrance for Victims of the Holocaust to be April 19, 1998 through April 23, 1998, and the International Day of Remembrace, Yom Hashoah, as April 23, 1998; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that City Council of the City of Plymouth, Minnesota, that April 23, 1998 is hereby proclaimed as Yom Hashoah, the Day of Remembrance for Holocaust Victims, in the City of Plymouth, Minnesota.
