HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1998-111CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION NO. 98 - 111 SUPPORTING THE REINSTATEMENT OF SALES TAX EXEMPTION FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENTS WHEREAS, Minnesota local governments have not been exempt from paying sales tax on purchases since 1992; and WHEREAS, the estimated annual cost to local governments for sales tax on purchases is $77 million, and this additional cost has not been offset by increases in other state aids to local governments; and WHEREAS, the City of Plymouth pays an estimated $125,000 annually in sales tax on purchases; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Plymouth, Minnesota, does hereby support current legislation which will reinstate the sales tax exemption for local governments, as long as the reinstatement is not dependent on a corresponding reduction in state aids to governments.
