HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2001-452CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION NO. 2001-452 WHEREAS, The Plymouth Fire Relief Association has requested that the City authorize an increase in the lump sum pension benefit from $5,500 per year of service to $6,000 per year of service effective January 1, 2001 and $6,500 per year of service in 2002; and WHEREAS, The State of Minnesota allows fire relief associations to increase their pension benefits to a set maximum; and WHEREAS, the maximum allowed by the Minnesota legislature for 2001 is $6,000 per year of service and $6,500 per year of service in 2002; and WHEREAS, in 38 years as an association, the Plymouth Fire Relief Association has never been a financial liability to the City of Plymouth; and WHEREAS, the City Council and City Staff agree the recommended change would be usefi l as an incentive too for recruiting new firefighters and retaining existing firefighters; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, that the City Council adopt the resolution authorizing an increase in the lump sum pension benefit for the Plymouth Fire Relief Association to $6,000 per year of service effective January 1, 2001 and $6,500 per year of service in 2002. Adopted by the City Council on October 23, 2001.
