RESOLUTION NO. 2001-451
WHEREAS, the Plymouth Fire Relief Association has requested the City authorize an increase in
the lump sum pension benefit from $5,500 per year of service to $6,000 per year of service
effective January 1, 2001 and $6,500 per year of service in 2002; and
WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota allows fire relief associations to increase their pension
benefits to a set minimum; and
WHEREAS, the maximum allowed by the Minnesota legislature for 2001 is $6,000 per year of
service and $6,500 per year of service in 2002; and
WHEREAS, in 38 years as an association, the Plymouth Fire Relief Association has never been a
financial liability to the City of Plymouth; and
WHEREAS, the City Council and City staff agree the recommended change would be usefi l as an
incentive tool for recruiting new firefighters and retaining existing firefighters,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PLYMOUTH, the City Council adopt the resolution authorizing an increase in the lump sum
pension benefit for the Plymouth Fire Relief Association to $6,000 per year of service effective
January 1, 2001, and $6,500 per year of service in 2002.
