HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2002-565CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION NO. 2002-565 AUTHORIZATION FOR SPEED LIMIT REDUCTION ON EVERGREEN LANE FROM 30 MPH TO 25 MPH WHEREAS, the current roadway width on Evergreen Lane, between West Medicine Lake Drive and 18t1' Avenue, of 18 — 22 feet is narrower in some sections than the current 21 -foot Plymouth street standards; and WHEREAS, with a narrower street design, a speed limit of 30 mph is perceived by the majority of drivers as too high for the given conditions; and WHEREAS, according to M.S. 169.14 Subd. 2(7), a speed limit of 25 mph may be set on residential roadways less than one-half mile in length, if adopted by the road authority having jurisdiction over the roadway and speed limit signs are erected designating the beginning and ending point of the segment; and WHEREAS, the 85t1' percentile speed was found to be 27 mph on this roadway segment; and WHEREAS, the 85t1' percentile speed is used to set speed limits on roadways since experience has shown that a posted speed limit near this value is the maximum safe and reasonable speed for a roadway; and WHEREAS, in order to provide for the safety of the public, the City Engineer has recommended that the speed limit be reduced from 30 mph to 25 mph on this segment of Evergreen Lane. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA: That it hereby, authorizes the speed limit reduction on Evergreen Lane between West Medicine Lake Drive and 18t1' Avenue from 30 mph to 25 mph. Adopted by the City Council on December 17, 2002.
