HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2003-372CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION NO. 2003-372 REQUESTING THE COMMISSIONER OF MN/DOT CONDUCT A SPEED ZONING STUDY: PEONY LANE FROM TRUNK HIGHWAY 55 TO 54TH AVENUE AND 54TH AVENUE/RANIER LANE/56TH AVENUE/TROY LANE FROM PEONY LANE TO COUNTY ROAD 47 WHEREAS, roadway geometric and traffic control improvements have changed the character of Peony Lane; and WHEREAS, the construction of the Wayzata High School with additional commercial and residential developments adjacent to Peony Lane have occurred, which has changed traffic patterns and increased traffic levels along these roadways; and WHEREAS, in coordination with the speed zoning study that was recently completed for County Road 101 south of Highway 55, it was brought to the City's attention that a speed zoning study had not been completed for Peony Lane north of Highway 55 after the reconstruction of the roadway; and WHEREAS, there is a City trail located on both sides of this roadway, between Highway 55 and Schmidt Lake Road; and WHEREAS, there is an established school speed zone near the Wayzata High School, with playfields located directly adjacent to the roadway; and WHEREAS, citizens have expressed safety concerns regarding the high vehicle speeds on the two-lane section north of the Wayzata High School and the high volume of young, inexperienced drivers from the high school who are using this roadway; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA: That the City requests the Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Transportation undertake an engineering study to determine the safe and reasonable speed on Peony Lane from Trunk Highway 55 to 54th Avenue and 54th Avenue/Ranier Lane/56th Avenue/Troy Lane from Peony Lane to County Rd 47. Adopted by the City Council on August 26, 2003.
