HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2003-043CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION NO. 2003-043 AUTHORIZATION FOR SPEED LIMIT REDUCTION ON OAKVIEW LANE FROM 30 MPH TO 25 MPH WHEREAS, Oakview Lane north of Highway 55 does not meet current City street design standards; and WHEREAS, with a narrower street and frequent driveways a speed limit of 30 mph is perceived by the majority of drivers as too high for the given conditions; and WHEREAS, the 85th percentile speed is used to set speed limits on roadways since experience has shown that a posted speed limit near this value is the maximum safe and reasonable speed for a roadway; and WHEREAS, the 85th percentile speed was found to be 26 mph on this roadway segment; and WHEREAS, according to M.S. 169.14 Subd. 2(7), a speed limit of 25 mph may be set on residential roadways less than one-half mile in length, if adopted by the road authority having jurisdiction over the roadway and speed limit signs are erected designating the beginning and ending point of the segment; and WHEREAS, the length of this segment of Oakview Lane was measured at 0.5 miles, which fits the criteria set by the State Statute; and WHEREAS, in order to provide for the safety of the public, the City Engineer has recommended that the speed limit be reduced from 30 mph to 25 mph on this segment of Oakview Lane. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA: That it hereby, authorizes the speed limit reduction from 30 mph to 25 mph on the segment of Oakview Lane that begins at 18th Avenue and extends approximately 0.5 mile to the north. Adopted by the City Council on January 28, 2002.
