Gear,, Inc.
Cha m' -w an Va-siliou declared the public hearing open.
ia i rwoiman Va i idd requested Mr. Taylor to explain ti'm difference between the two
proposed tanks. Mir. Taylor responded that the reason they had not requested
specific size tank was because anion Carbide might require gram to instill the
larger tank if they use enough liquid nitrogen to warrant it. He asked that if
grey install the 3,000 gallon tank and Union Carbide requires then to have a 6,000
gallon tank, mould they have to come back for Flanning c? lssicn and City Council
approval. They don`t. knotv what i actual requirements w an they, have
to have their tank filled too often, they may have to installthe larger tank.
Staff c vr.r n d that the dank the Planning Con.mission, saw in the slides of another
site was the 6,,000 gallon tank, Chairwoman Vasiliou commented the approval could
approve either the 31,000 gallon tankor the 61,000 gallon tank, but not both.
v,mssion r HatChler asked` if there was any way to prevent trucks from going through
the fence and rupturing the tank. Mr* Taylor responded that they w 1 have posts
filled with concrete at the corners of the fence which will prevent that happening*
Discussion ensued regarding safety precautionsins °dor the tank. Commissioner Retcriley.
asked whether large tracks would be maneuvering in this area, and Mr. Taylor responded
in the affirmative. Commission r Hetchler stated that he would like to see language
n the approval requiring concrete -filled posts to prevent trucks tacking into the
tank.
Commissioner SIT're inquired wh r there are regulations co rig the installation o
something like what is proposed, ,and staff responded that it would be subject to Sat
building and fire Codes and if thefence is set back from the tank i asci `, and the
corner posts aro installed, then there is little potential of any vehicle rupturing
the tank. Mr. Taylor stated they wouldd ires a o 5 i nor diameter pipes at least
