SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING
JANUARY 10, 1994
A special meeting of the Plymouth City Council was called to order by Mayor Tierney
at 6:00 p.m. at the City Center, 3400 Plymouth Blvd., on January 10, 1994.
PRESENT: Mayor Tierney, Councihnembers Anderson, Edson, Helliwell,
Lymangood. Councilmember Granath arrived at 6:15 p.m.
ABSENT: None
STAFF PRESENT: City Manager Johnson, Assistant Manager Lueckert, and City
Clerk Rauenhorst
The City Council interviewed the following 11 candidates for the position of Ward 2
Councilmember: Dennis Zylla, Sheryl G. Morrison, David Shea, Jack Hill, Eydie
Kargas, Mary McKee, Scott Martin, Miles Thompson, Joseph J. Domagala, Tim
Wold, and Christian A. Preus.
The Council discussed the appointment process.
MOTION was made by Councilmember Edson, seconded by Councilmember
Helliwell, to take a non-binding straw poll to identify the top three candidates for
discussion purposes only.
Councilmember Granath stated he feels the discussion of the candidates should be held
at a regular Council meeting for the benefit of Ward 2 residents. He will support the
straw poll with the understanding that the results are non-binding and that all 11
candidates are in consideration until the official appointment is made.
MOTION to amend the main motion was made by Councilmember Granath, seconded
by Councilmember Edson, that the straw poll would be non-binding and all candidates
would remain in contention for consideration of appointment on January 24.
Motion to amend carried; six ayes.
Main motion as once amended carried, six ayes.
MOTION was made by Mayor Tierney, seconded by Councilmember Helliwell, to add
discussion of the Ward 2 Councilmember appointment as a topic on the January 17
special meeting agenda.

Councilmembers Lymangood and Granath spoke against the motion.
Motion failed; Tierney aye; five nays.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:40 p.m.
