Special Joint Meeting
City Council/Wayzata School District 284
July 14, 2014
A joint meeting of the Wayzata School District 284 Board and the Plymouth City Council was
called to order by School Board Chair Cohen at 5:30 p.m. at the Wayzata Public Schools
Administration Building, 210 County Road 101 North, Plymouth, on July 14, 2014.
COUNCIL PRESENT: Mayor Slavik, Councilmembers Wosje, Prom, Johnson, and Willis
arrived at 5:30 p.m.).
ABSENT: Councilmember Bildsoe.
SCHOOL BOARD PRESENT: Chair Cohen, Board Members Hesby, Peterson, Polzin, Cuene,
Johansen, and McCullough.
STAFF PRESENT: School Superintendent Anderson, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent
Hale, Executive Director of Finance and Business Westrum, Director of Communications and
Community Engagement Parnell, Director of Administrative Services Tollison, Park and
Recreation Director Evans, Public Works Director Cote, Administrative Services Director
Fischer, Community Development Director Juetten, Fire Chief Kline, Police Chief Goldstein,
Deputy Park and Recreation Director Northway, Recreation Manager Michaud, and City Clerk
Engdahl.
Representatives of the School District and their architects/project managers provided an update
to the City Council on the following items:
Recent property the School District has purchased
Update on elementary school concepts (parcels under consideration, district owned land,
property adjacent to City of Plymouth land, strategic partnerships with the City,
developers, and athletic associations)
Update on high school campus (campus access, possible land use, fields, strategic
partnerships with the City and athletic associations
City and School District partnerships (historical perspective, agreements, what's working
well, what needs improvement, what is no longer relevant or needs to be discontinued,
what needs to be added), and future vision
The following items it was mutually agreed to review:
Establish a joint committee to improve communication
Consider amending the joint powers agreement to address gyro space

Continue discussions with area cities to request participation financially to improve
facilities
Involve the Police Chief and Fire Chief when access points are discussed for the high
school
Monitor keeping the school campuses safe as the district grows (Le. drugs, bullying) and
request assistance from the City if need be
Consider joint parking as it relates to the Tombers property the City recently purchased
Adjournment
School Board Chair Cohen adjourned the meeting at 6:15 p.m.
