COUNCIL SUBCOMMITTEE ON
BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS
JANUARY 17, 1995
A meeting of the Plymouth City Council Subcommittee on Boards and Commissions was
called to order by Mayor Tierney at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Conference Room of the
City Center, 3400 Plymouth Blvd., on January 17, 1995.
PRESENT: Mayor Tierney; Councilmembers Edson, Helliwell, and Wold.
ABSENT: None.
STAFF PRESENT: Assistant Manager Lueckert and City Clerk Ahrens.
The Subcommittee on Boards and Commissions reviewed the applications received from
residents interested in appointment and discussed the various vacancies. Following
discussion, the Subcommittee decided the following:
1. There is no need to interview current board and commission members who
are interested in reappointment. These names will be considered along with the
new applicants following the interviews.
2. The Subcommittee will make a recommendation to the full Council that
the Financial Advisory Committee be discontinued.
3. The Subcommittee generally felt that the Water Quality Committee could
be continued for one more year. Mayor Tierney suggested that proactive efforts in
the area of public education could be the directed focus of the group.
4. Staff was directed to schedule Subcommittee interviews with the
following applicants on January 31, beginning at 5:30 p.m.: Fran Day, Steve
Gale, Caroll Holmstrom, Steven Novak, Walter Thurman, Darrell Banks, Don
Bushek, Chris Rockey, Patricia Earl, Brian Helmken, Dahram Bobra, Kapila
Bobra, Saundra Spigner, Douglas McGuire, Tom Jes, and Weslee Clemens.
5. The Subcommittee recommended that an informal reception should be
held each year after a City Council election, following the commission
appointments. An hors d'oeuvres reception could be held immediately preceding
a Council meeting, and could serve to introduce newly appointed commission
members to the City Council and to honor outgoing commission members. All
