HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2014-156CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION No. 2014-156 A RESOLUTION APPROVING UPDATE EMERALD ASH BORER (EAB) MANAGEMENT PLAN USING THE PARKS AND FORESTRY BUDGET WHEREAS, the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has been confirmed within 10 miles of the City of Plymouth's eastern border, there are 880 park proper and boulevard ash trees, it is estimated EAB will attack City ash trees from the east sweeping across to the west; and WHEREAS, the cost of treating a 15" in diameter ash tree is more cost efficient than removal; and WHEREAS, treating both park and boulevard ash trees in proximity to each other is a cost efficiency; and WHEREAS, Parks and Forestry staff are licensed to treat ash trees in-house; and WHEREAS, ash trees which are less than 15" in diameter provide less benefits and can be removed economically when infested or showing signs of decline; and WHEREAS, the 2014 treatment of the park proper and boulevard ash trees on the east side of Plymouth will cost $26,529; and WHEREAS, the current budget for 2014 treatment is $17,000; and WHERAS, an additional $9,529 from the Parks and Forestry budget will be used to treat the 440 park proper and boulevard ash trees on the east side of Plymouth in 2014; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA, that staff is authorized to update the Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan to include treatment of both park proper and boulevard ash trees, utilizing the 2014 Parks and Forestry budget, on the east side of the City of Plymouth. APPROVED this 13th Day of May, 2014.
