AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO
PURCHASE A MALINOIS BREED POLICE CANINE
AND AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR AND CITY MANAGER
TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH PERFORMANCE
KENNELS, INC. FOR THE PURCHASE AND TRAINING
WHEREAS, the Police Department currently has two police K-9 units; and
WHEREAS, on September 8, 2004, one of our K -9's, Dallas retired from service
due to health reasons; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department became aware of a Malinois breed dog, which
has already received training for use as a police K-9 and is available now from
Performance Kennels, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, the monetary impact to the City would be the same whether this dog
is purchased or the City waits until a new course in the spring with St. Paul Police
Department; and
WHEREAS, this dog has already received some training, and the City can
contract with Performance Kennels, Inc. for additional training for the new handler and
become operational much sooner,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, the City Council adopt the Resolution authorizing the
purchase of a Malinois breeed canine and authorizing the Mayor and City Manager to
enter into a contract with Performance Kennels, Inc. for the purchase and training of such
animal.
Adopted by the City Council on September 28, 2004.
