HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Minutes 10-28-2003 SpecialAdopted Minutes Special Council Meeting October 28, 2003 Mayor Johnson called a Special Meeting of the Plymouth City Council to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Public Safety Training Room, 3400 Plymouth Boulevard, on October 28, 2003. COUNCIL PRESENT: Mayor Johnson, Councilmembers Hewitt, Slavik, Neset, Bildsoe, Black, and Stein. ABSENT: None. STAFF PRESENT: Interim City Manager Ahrens, Police Chief Gerdes, Finance Manager Jacobson, Fire Chief Kline, Captain Goldstein, Park and Recreation Director Blank, Public Works Director Faulkner, Property Management Coordinator Jones, Lieutenant Webb, Sergeant Kleist, and City Clerk Paulson. Mayor Johnson introduced Mark Voxland, who is the Mayor from the City of Moorhead. Dave Kroos, from Boarman Kroos Vogel Group, illustrated different schematic designs for the expansion of the Public Safety Building as well as possible expansions to the City Hall. He stated the approximate cost for the Public Safety Building would be $7,330,500, and if improvements were to be made to the City Hall, the approximate cost would be $7,363,000. The Council discussed the option of relocating the Park and Recreation Department to an addition at the Plymouth Creek Center in the future. Councilmember Stein stated he likes the idea of incorporating a promenade that would serve as a gateway" to the Hilde Performance Center area. Councilmember Bildsoe suggested that the Council focus their attention on only expanding the Public Safety building, and in the future, there could be alternatives for expansion of the City Hall. Councilmember Black stated she agrees, but she noted that there is an immediate space concern for the Engineering Department. Councilmember Slavik also agreed on the need to focus only on the expansion to the Public Safety Building at this time, but not include the promenade. A discussion was held on the parking area for City Center, on street parking on Plymouth Boulevard and 34h Avenue, and additional handicap parking spaces (for events at Hilde Performance Center). Adopted Council Minutes Special Meeting of October 28, 2003 Page 2 of 2 Councilmember Hewitt voiced her support for handicap parking spaces closer to the Hilde Performance Center, and she also suggested that the promenade not be included at this time. Set Future Study Sessions Due to time constraints, the Council stated this item would be placed on the Regular Council meeting agenda this evening.
