RESOLUTION No. 2014-016
AUTHORIZING THE RE -ADVERTISEMENT FOR
BIDS FOR THE MEDICINE LAKE RETAINING WALL
CITY PROJECT NO. 13020
WHEREAS, the Medicine Lake retaining wall and paved trail (8 ft wide) is
showing noticeable distress and failure; and
WHEREAS, SRF Consulting Group, Inc. has prepared plans and specification for
the replacement of Medicine Lake retaining wall including the complete closure of West
Medicine Lake Drive adjacent to the constriction zone, City Project No. 13020; and
WHEREAS, City Project No. 13020 includes trail and retaining wall removal and
replacement, excavation of the shoreline, and new chain-link fencing to meet new safety
standards; and
WHEREAS, the proposed project will be financed through the street
reconstruction fiinds that were transferred as a result of the 2012 general fund surplus;
and
WHEREAS, the overall project (including engineering and administrative
expenses) is estimated to cost between $800,000-$1,000,000 depending on retaining wall
materials; and
WHEREAS, in August of 2013, bids for the Medicine Lake retaining wall project
were rejected because they were 27% over the engineers estimate.
WHEREAS, the re -bid process will be initiated in January and available for bid
award at the February 25 City Council Meeting. The project is scheduled to begin work
in late March and substantially complete by Memorial Day; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA, to authorize the re -
advertisement for bids for the replacement of the Medicine Lake Retaining Wall, City
Project No. PRK13020.
