HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1970-297I VILLAGE OF PLYMOUTH it Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a spacial meeting of the <i Village Council of the Village of Plymouth, Minnesota was held on the 27th day of July, 1970. The following members were present: Mayor Hilde, Councilman Johnson, Kindseth and Spaeth. Councilman Hints was absent. r,rtt erste Councilman Johnson introduced the following Resolution and moved J! its adoption: 1i :t RESOLUTION NO. 70-297 A RESOLUTION ENDORSING AMENDMENT NO. 1 ON TAX-E]OWT PROPERTY WRERFAS, the Village of Plymouth is by law almost totally dependent on the roparty tax to fiaaace 0101cipal services; and F WHEREAS, the Village Council to acutely aware of the burden which property taxes impose on property owners, particularly; those individuals living on fixed incomes; and WHEREAS, the Village Council is concerned about the steady growth in tax-exaapt property which serves to increase the burden Of f taxpaying property owners; sad WHEREAS,the"Vt4ne Council isnot unmindful of the valuable services performed by many tar-exampt organizations, particularly � religious and educational institutions; and ' WZREAS, the Minnesota Legislature has tb*roughly studied thin probm: le, and expressed its coacera through the passage of Law01%96.02S,. which proposed to amend -Article 9 Section I of the Mitmtaots ` Constitution to permit the Legislature to define ar Uld-t- 0 classes of exempt property, except tuaarcbess hou"* of vorlehip and property used -solely; for educational purpoess' and WHEREAS, the pillage Council believes tute.proposed smaadnsnt to be to the.b at interests of thqv Villago,of Plymouth"ena'the state ss a whole, and represents a reasonable meansof,masting the. used to more equitably spread the burden of financing local Hoverument services wbils at tha same time avoiding Imposing undue, financial hardship on educational and religious institutions; k NOW TMMMRE,,BE IT 9ERESY.RESOLVED EA THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE faf VILLAGE. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing Resolution was duly r seconded by Councilman Spaeth, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted In favor thereof: Mayor gilds, Councilmen Johnson, Kindesth and Spaeth.
