HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Minutes 01-09-2007 Special 1Adopted Minutes Special Council Meeting January 9, 2007 Mayor Elect Slavik called a Special Meeting of the Plymouth City Council to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Medicine Lake Room of City Hall, 3400 Plymouth Boulevard, on January 9, 2007. COUNCIL PRESENT: Mayor Slavik, Councilmembers Willis, Hewitt,' Stein, Bildsoe, Black, and Murdock. STAFF PRESENT: City Manager Ahrens, Planning Manager Senness, Public Works Director Cote, and City Clerk Engdahl. Future Capacity Improvements to Highway 55 Representatives from SFR Consulting Group, Hennepin County, and Minnesota Department of Transportation discussed future improvements to Highway 55 from I-494 to the Crow River in Rockford. It was made clear that the Minnesota Department of Transportation wouldn't have this as a programmed project until after 2020. In addition, l there is no funding available or programmed in the Metropolitan Council's 2007-2010 Transportation Improvement Program for actual improvements to Highway 55 other than a mill and overlay in 2008. However, the Highway 55 Coalition received federal funding for official mapping, preliminary engineering, and environmental studies. The Highway 55 Coalition is in the process of preparing an environmental assessment for the corridor. Preliminary designs of this section of highway were discussed with the Council, and the representatives noted that they have scheduled a public open house on January 30 from 5:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m. in the training room at the Hennepin County Public Works Facility, 1600 Prairie Drive, Medina. This meeting would provide an opportunity for other elected officials and the public to review the preliminary plans. They noted that those residents and businesses that are within 1,000 feet of the corridor would be mailed a notice of this open house. Staff stated that this open house would be posted on the City's website. Future Study Sessions The Council stated this item would be placed on the regular Council Meeting agenda.
