HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1997-640• G CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION NO. 97 - 640 ESTABLISHING MORATORIUM ON "ALL -WAY" STOP REQUEST BY CITIZEN PETITION WHEREAS, the City Council has established a policy concerning requests for stop sign installations last revised on September 10, 1990; and WHEREAS, that policy states that after evaluation by the City Engineer if the installation is not recommended, a petition needs to be submitted to the City Council signed by at least 70% of the 1 residents within 500 feet of the intersection to have Council consideration of the stop sign; and WHEREAS, no criteria has been established for the City Council consideration of these requests; and WHEREAS, stop signs affect vehicle movement generally in a larger area and the larger affected area may net be in agreement for the need for the stop sign; and WHEREAS, the City Council wants to study the issue and determine if a criteria can be established as part of the consideration of these requests. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA: That a moratorium is placed on the City Council consideration of "All -Way" stop sign requests initiated by citizen petition and not recommended by the City Engineer until the City Council studies the issue and determines any revisions to the current policy. FURTHER, the City Engineer shall inform any citizens requesting "All -Way" stops of this study and moratorium by the City Council. Adopted by the City Council on October 15, 1997.
