No. 97 - 207 APPROVING LETTER OF SUPPORT TO JUDGE MABLEY FOR COURT ORDER ADJUSTING CHARTER COMMISSION TERMS OF OFFICE BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Plymouth. Minnesota that the attached letter of support to Chief Judge Daniel Mabley for the Court Order a4just:ng the terns of the Plymouth Charter Commission is hereby approved. Adopted by the City Council on April 2. 1997. C7 April 3.1997 The Honorable Daniel H. Mabley Chief Judge Hennepin County District Court Hennepin County Government Center Minneapolis. Minnesota 55487 RE: Plymouth Charter Commission Tams of Office Dear Judge Mabley. I write on behalf of the Plymouth City Council. The Council recently reviewed the request made to you to change the terms of office for some members of the Plymouth Charter Commission. The City Council supports the Order, and asks that you sign it. The current terms of the Plymouth Charter Commission members are concurrent. These concurrent terms violate the intent of Minnesota Statutes 410.05, which specifies staggered terms for charter commissions. Under the existing terms of office, all members of the Plymouth Charter Commission would leave the commission in June 1999. This is clearly not in the best interests of the city. Thus the Plymouth City Council supports the Order calling for the creation of staggered tams. Thank you very much for your assistance in this matt". Should you have any questions, please call Assistant City Manager Kathy Lueckert at 509-5052. Sincerely, Joycelyn H.
