CITY OF PLYMOUTH
RESOLUTION 96 - 249
REFERRING ISSUES ABOUT CITY COUNCIL ATTENDANCE TO THE
PLYMOUTH CHARTER COMMISSION
WHEREAS, a City Council subcommittee has discussed certain issues about
councilmember attendance and has identified some issues which more properly fall under
the purview of the Plymouth Charter Commission; and
WHEREAS, current language in Section 2.07 of the Plymouth City Charter regarding
councilmember absences for more than 90 days may need clarification; and
WHEREAS, new state law permits councils to declare a temporary council vacancy if
a elected official is absent for more than 90 days and to fill the seat on a temporary basis;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Plymouth City Council that the
issues of clarifying the language in Section 2.07 of the Plymouth City Charter and
considering incorporating into the Charter the provisions of state law regarding temporary
vacancies be referred to the Plymouth Charter Commission for consideration as possible
amendments;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Charter Commission is also asked to consider
an amendment which would provide a process for the recall of an elected official.
Adopted by the City Council on May 1, 1996.
