HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1996-249• CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION 96 - 249 REFERRING ISSUES ABOUT CITY COUNCIL ATTENDANCE TO THE PLYMOUTH CHARTER COMMISSION WHEREAS, a City Council subcommittee has discussed certain issues about councilmember attendance and has identified some issues which more properly fall under the purview of the Plymouth Charter Commission; and WHEREAS, current language in Section 2.07 of the Plymouth City Charter regarding councilmember absences for more than 90 days may need clarification; and WHEREAS, new state law permits councils to declare a temporary council vacancy if a elected official is absent for more than 90 days and to fill the seat on a temporary basis; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Plymouth City Council that the issues of clarifying the language in Section 2.07 of the Plymouth City Charter and considering incorporating into the Charter the provisions of state law regarding temporary vacancies be referred to the Plymouth Charter Commission for consideration as possible amendments; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Charter Commission is also asked to consider an amendment which would provide a process for the recall of an elected official. Adopted by the City Council on May 1, 1996. •
