HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1996-098• RESOLUTION NO. 96-98 Whereas, the Sports Facilities Task Force of 1995 identified gym space and other indoor recreational space as top priorities and needs for the City; and, Whereas, School District 284 is currently constructing a new high school in the City; and, Whereas, limitations in the project budget for the new high school may cause reductions in the recreational and athletic facilities at the new high school if outside assistance cannot be obtained; and, Whereas, in a new Tax Increment Financing Plan adopted in November, 1995, the City identified $1,200,000 in existing TIF funds that are designated for assistance to school districts interested in providing recreational and athletic facilities in Plymouth; and, Whereas, School District 284 has officially requested assistance in the amount of $700,000 from the City's TIF funds to help provide recreational facilities that will benefit the programs and constituents of both bodies; and, Whereas, such assistance is requested partially in consideration of Section 469.177, Subdivision 10, of the Minnesota Statutes which provides for refunds to School Districts of certain levies within Tax Increment Districts certified prior to May 1, 1988; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OIC PLYMOUTH: that $7000000 in TIF funds be conceptually approved for payment to School District 284 for the construction of athletic and recreational facilities that will jointly benefit the School District and the City, subject to a written agreement on the uses of the funds.
