RESOLUTION 96 - 97
Waste Reduction and Procurement Policy/Action Plan
WHEREAS, The City of Plymouth is committed to protecting the environment.
WHEREAS, the volume of material disposed of in waste facilities has teen increasing
annually; and
WHEREAS, it is becoming increasingly difficult to site new landfills and other waste
facilities; and
WHEREAS, much of the materials that enter the waste steam can be reduced, reused or
recycled into new products; and
WHEREAS, the City of Plymouth's participation in promoting and implementing source
reduction and recylcing programs can significantly reduce the volume of materials
entering the waste stream, thereby conserving resources and avoiding the costs of
disposal; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota state law requires public entities whenever possible to purchase
and use paper that has post -consumer recycled content and is recyclable; and
WHEREAS, the Waste Rtcluction and Recycling Committee developed this Action Plan
to be implemented to achieve a measurable level of solid waste source reduction and
prevent pollution,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that the City of Plymouth City Council adopts
the following Waste Reduction and Procurement Policy/Action Plan to initiate its
committment to complying with state law as well as put into place the outlined Action
Plan,
