HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1995-595CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION NO. 93 - S95 APPROVAL OF AGREII MqT FOR USE OF THE PARKING LOT AT WATERFORD PARK PLAZA SHOPPING CENTER IN THE EVENT OF A BUS STR= BY THE MCTO TRANSIT WORKERS UNION WHEREAS, the MCTO Transit Workers Union, Amalgamated Transit Workers, has voted to authorize a strike if a new contract cannot be agreed upon between the union and the Metropolitan Council; and WHEREAS, the required ten day cooling off period has passed and legally a strike can take place at any time without further notice; and WHEREAS, the union has publicized October 9 as the date for a transit strike; and WHEREAS, the City of Plymouth has developed a strike contingency plan and has the ability to provide limited morning and afternoon commuter services between Plymouth and downtown Minneapolis as well as reverse commute service from downtown Minneapolis to various employment sites in Plymouth; and WHEREAS, to provide this service Plymouth Metrolink will utilize the nine small buses currently utilized in the Metrolink system and provided to the City under a separate contract with National School Bus Service, Inc.; and WHEREAS, to make most efficient use of those vehicles it has been determined that an additional park and ride facility is necessary; and WHEREAS, Waterford Park Plaza Shopping Center is willing to enter into an agreement with the City of Plymouth to permit the City to utilize a portion of their parking lot for the required additional park and ride facility. NOW, THHREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCEL OF THE CITY OF PLP' MINNESOTA: That the Mayor and City Manager are authorized to enter into the agreement with BGK Properties and Waterford Park Plaza Shopping Center for use of the parking lot at Waterford Park Plain Shopping Center as a park and ride: facility in the event of a bus strike by the MCTO Transit Workers Union. Adopted by the City Council on October 3, 1995. AOMTSMK,OOC
