HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1993-170CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION NO. 93-170 ESTABLISHING A SCHOOL SPEED LIMIT AND AUTHORIZING FLASHING BEACONS PLYMOUTH CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CITY PROJECT NO. 303 WHEREAS, at the request of the Principal of Plymouth Creek Elementary School, meetings have been held with City staff, school representatives, and representatives of the Parent Advisory Council; and WHEREAS, a concern has been established on pedestrian safety of crossing Vicksburg Lane to access the Plymouth Creek Elementary School; and WHEREAS, it has been concluded that the establishment of a school crosswalk at 41st Avenue with a reduced speed zone during school hours would be the best solution to establish a safe pedestrian crossing on Vicksburg Lane; and WHEREAS, in accordance with previous City policy, the school district has agreed to share in the cost responsibility to install flashing beacons associated with the reduced school speed zone. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA: That the City staff is directed to implement the following: 1. Install a crosswalk on Vicksburg Lane at 41st Avenue. 2. Install the necessary traffic signs to warn motorists of the pedestrian crosswalk. 3. Install flashing beacons in advance of the crosswalk to warn motorists of a school speed zone. FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED. that a school speed zone of 25 m.p.h. is established on Vicksburg Lane between Old Rockford Road and Plymouth Creek. The school speed limit shall be effective on school days when a school patrol is at the crosswalk and the beacons are flashing. FURTHER. that City funding for the project in the amount of $3.000 is provided from the City's MSA Account (402-402). Adopted by the City Council on March 29, 1993.
