Faulkner, P.E., Director of Public Works SUBJECT: STATUS OF CURRENT CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS Count Road 61 County Road 10 to north City limits City Project No. 9004: This is a Hennepin County project which was awarded by the Hennepin County Board in July of 2001. The overall project extends through Maple Grove to just south of I-94. A preconstruction meeting was held in August 2001. This project is approximately 45 % complete with an estimated total completion date of November 1, 2002. This project is behind schedule, but the contractor still plans to meet the completion date. County Road 101, Highway 55 to south of County Road 24, Cit, rKoject No. 9005: Hennepin County is the contract administrator of this project. The contract was awarded by the Hennepin County Board on April 20, 2001. A preconstruction meeting was held for this project in April of 2001. The project is approximately 60% complete. The project was originally expected to be completed in 2002, but the schedule has been adjusted several times due to a variety of delays. Attached is a letter from Hennepin County regarding completion of the project. Counq Road 101 Landscaping Improvements Highway 55 to south of County Road 24, City Project No. 9005: This contract will be administered by the City of Plymouth. The estimated contract award date is September 2002 with an estimated completion date of June of 2003. Plans have been completed. Depending on progress of the road project some planting work may begin this fall. Fire Station No. 3 parking lot reconstruction, City Project No. 101.0_: This project was awarded on July 23, 2002, with a preconstruction meeting held on July 25, 2002. The contractor is expected to begin construction the week of August 12`x. The estimated completion date is September 15, 2002. The contractor should be able to finish the project on schedule. A preconstruction meeting was held on May 24, 2002. This project is approximately 50% complete with an estimated completion date of October 15, 2002. The project is on schedule. County Road 101, Highway 55 to County Road 47, City Project No. 1026: This is a Hennepin County project. A contract will be awarded sometime in September of 2002, with construction starting in 2002 and completion in 2004. Permanent traffic signal at Peony Lane and Schmidt Lake Road and tem orar traffic signal at Old Rockford RoadNicksburg Lane, City Project Nos. 1028 and 1040. A contract was awarded for these two projects on March 26, 2002 and a preconstruction meeting was held on April 17, 2002. The contractor has begun work this week and the estimated completion date is September 1 for both these signals. Completion of the Peony Lane signal before school starts is the primary goal and should be accomplished. Peogy Lane/Troy Lane Wayzata High School to County Road 47 bituminous paving, City Project No. 1029: This project is currently under design by the City's consulting firm of SRF Consulting Group, Inc. It is anticipated that the contract will be awarded in September of 2002 with an estimated completion date of October 15, 2002. Old Rockford Road/Highway 55, sanitary sewer and water, City Project No. 1033: Rids were received for this project on July 12, 2002. The bids were approximately 36% over the engineer's estimate, and the recommendation will be to rebid the project in December of 2002 with some minor revisions. Pike Lake Channel Stabilization City Project No. 1043: This is a Cit; of Maple Grove project with funding contribution by the City of Plymouth. A contract was awarded by the City of Maple Grove in the Spring of 2002, and a preconstruction meeting was held in May of 2002. The project has not been started yet with an anticipated start date in October of 2002, and an estimated completion date of June of 2003. This project is on schedule. Bidding was not required due to the size of the project. Construction is anticipated to start the week of August 5 with completion by September 15, 2002. 2002 Street Reconstruction, City Project No. 2001: A contract was awarded for this project on May 14, 2002. The preconstruction meeting was held on May 23, 2002. The project is approximately 50% complete with an estimated completion date of October 1, 2002. The project is on schedule. Peony Lane/Old Rockford Road Turn Lane and Permanent .Traffic Signal, City Project No. 2009: It is anticipated that a contract will be awarded on this project in September of 2002, with an estimated completion date of November 1, 2002. - Old Rockford Road; Holly Lane to Peony Lane Trail Improvements, City__Project No. 2010 It is anticipated that a contract will be awarded in September of 2002, with an estimated completion date of November 1, 2002. Schmidt Lake Road Bridge and Road Improvements, Dunkirk Lane to Comstock Lane, City Project No. 2021: We anticipate that a contract will be awarded in late 2002 with construction and completion of the project in 2003. This project is designated in 2003 by the Capital Improvements Program (CIP). However due to anticipated conditions in the construction industry we believe the City will get lower prices if the work is bid this fall. The embankment for this project is currently under construction by the developer of the Timber Creek Addition. 2002 Bituminous Mill and Overlay Improvements, City Project No. 2028: We anticipate awarding a contract in September 2002, with an estimated completion date of November 1, 2002. This project includes Larch Lane from County Road 9 to the railroad north o Schmidt Lake Road and Medicine Ridge Road from 26'h Avenue to East Medicine Lake Boulevard. Since the water tower will be removed from service during the work construction will not begin until mid to late August with completion be November 1, 2002. Water Pressure Enhancements: This project is listed in each year of the CIP. The initial step is to prepare a study on the most cost effective way to increase the water pressure in low pressure areas of the City. Bonestroo, Rosene, Anderlik And Assoc., Inc. (BRA) has been requested to prepare a preliminary analysis for the City. Well No. 14, City Project No. 2027: BRA is investigating potential well sites in the Zachary well field. When feasible sites have been identified one or more test wells will be drilled to ensure the site is productive:. Portions of the raw watermain required for this well and an additional well are being constructed by the Nathan Lane Street Improvement project. We anticipate at least one well will begin production in 2003. Source of future water supply - Maple Grove versus expansion The following projects that are listed in the CIP are dependent to varying degrees on the decision whether or not to purchase water from Maple Grove and how it is done. BRA is currently preparing a model of the two water systems to determine if the proposal is practical. They are also performing a sturdy to determine if operation of the Zachary Plant can be optimized to increase production from the existing facility. After these determinations further work will be pursued on the appropriate projects. 1. Upgrades of Zachary Treatment Plant, City Project No. 2032 2. Expand Zachary Treatment Plant 3. We also anticipate the following interim schedule for throudht traffic movements on County Road --101. The dates provided are what we think are worst Ose dates: 1t is our hope that- - through traffic movements will be provided before these dates. From Medina Road south to County Road 24 Southbound traffic movement accommodated onjor before September 3, 2002 Northbound traffic movement accommodated onor before October 15, 2002 From TH 55 south to Medina Road Two-way traffic will be accommodated on or be re October_ 15, 2002 on the east side of County Road 101 Medina Road East/west traffic will be accommodated during the remainder of the project Due to the lateness of the year, the final pavement wear coluse will be placed in 2003.
