HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1992-036CITY Or FLYMUTH RUOLUTION NO. 92-36 CALLING "R Ti POBTpONO T OR P"RALL OF "=ID XAL PRIMRY WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute 207A establishing the Presidential Primary was initially adopted without legislative hearings or an analysis of the fiscal impact on local governments; and WHEREAS, the purpose and effect of the balloting conducted during the Presidential Primary are unrelated to the actual election of candidates to public office in Minnesota or at the national level and the results are nonbinding; and MMREAS, the Legislature has not provided reimbursement of local government costs for conducting the Presidential Primary; and WHEREAS, local tax revenues should not be used for what are essentially political party activities. NOW TIZREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Plymouth that it supports the repeal or postponement of the Presidential Primary until a revenue source, other than local property tax dollars, is appropriated to fund the election.
