A RESOLUTION PROCLAIXINC3 OCTOBER 24, 19671
AS UNITED NATIONS DAY •
Mayor Staples introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoptions
WHEREAS, twenty-two years ago on October twenty-fourth, 19451 the United
Nations Charter crane into force; and
WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the i►nited Nations has called for the
annual observance of October twenty-fourth as United Nations Day, to be calebratad
by all Member Ntions; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of this community are fully aware that our survival
requires worldwide cooperation and that 'dhis country's ghighest hopes are in
harmony with the hopes and aspirations of peoples everywhere; and
WHEREAS, the Uaitmd Nations was created to maintain peace in the world.
based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of
peoples, to **affirm faith in fundamental human rights, and to raise the standard
of living for all men --purposes which the united States of America wholeheartedly
supports; and
iWHEREAS, the United Nations is the only international forum where nations •
large and small can gather together in their oommon belief that the conference
table is better than the battle field; and
HHEREAB, the United Nations and its family of agencies has earned the "teem
and respect of the citizens of this country and of this Village for its practical
achievements, which directly benefit each one of us in our daily livesi and help
us to fulfill the humanitarian obligations which Americans have always tried to
serve; and
WHEREAS, the success of the United Nations depends to a great extent on the
good will and support of a well-informed publiog
NOW, THTIRUORE _L� IT HEREBY RFZOLVED BY -ice GILIAW COUNCIL OP THE VILLAGE OF
PL7NOUTH:
That October 24, 190, be proclaimed as United Uptions Day, and that all citizens
of Plymouth be called upon to observe that day in a spirit -,f aomm:on purpose with
. the aims of the United Nations, '
The above motion was seconded by Councilman O'Pallon, and upon vote being
taken thereon, ::.e following voted in favor thersofs Y.ayor Staples, Councilmen
0/Fallon, Duntley and hunt; and the following were absents Counailman gager).
WHEREUPON sial Resolution was declared duly passed and adopted on the 17th day
of July, 1967.
