ORDINANCE NO. 87-21
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SUBSECTIONS 905.09
AND 905.19 OF THE PLYMOUTH CITY CODE;
PROHIBITING THE STORAGE AND USE OF COOKING
DEVICES AND FUELS ON BALCONIES OR PATIOS;
REQUIRING A LICENSE FOR AUTOMATIC FIRE
EXTINGUISHER INSTALLERS AND CONTRACTORS
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH ORDAINS:
Sec. 1. Plymouth City Code, Subsection 905.09 is amended by
adding a subdivision to read:

Subd. 5. License Required. No person, firm or corporation
may install, repair, alter, test or extend any automatic
fire extinguishing system unless the person, firm or corpo-
ration is licensed to perform such work by:
(a) the City of Minneapolis, under Section 277.3127 et
seg. of the Minneapolis Code of Ordinances, as
amended, and the City of Minnetonka, under Section
418 of the Minnetonka Code of Ordinances, as
amended; or
(b) the State of Minnesota, upon implementation of a
state license requirement for automatic fire
extinguisher installers or contractors, if the
State licensing requirements meet or exceed the
licensing requirements under (a) above.
Sec. 2. Plymouth City Code, Subsection 905.19 is amended to
905.19. Fires or Barbecues Cooking Devices on Balco-
nies or Patios. Subdivision 1. Prohibition. 1 -e -wry

use any cooking device, fuel, torch, or other heating
or lighting equipment or flammable chemicals on any
balcony above ground level or on any ground floor patio

Exception; Permitted Cooking Devices in Certain Struc-
tures. Subdivision 1 does not apply to the storage or
use of permitted cooking devices on balconies or ground
floor patios that are constructed of noncombustible
material on five of six sides. Fuel for a permitted
cooking device must be stored in compliance with
subdivision 1 of this subsection.
Subd. 3. Exception; Permanent Natural Gas Cooking
Devices. Natural gas fired barbeeue-g}rrl_1-ss cooking
devices wh}eh that are permanently mounted, plumbed to
the building's natural gas supply and maintain-ing

balconies and patios.
Sec.
Subd. 4. Definitions.
(a) "Cooking device" as used in this subsection
means any barbecue, rotisserie, roaster, oven
or similar equipment used in food prepara-

(b) "Open flame fire" as used in this subsection

torch, flare, decorative light, fondue or
other heating, burning, or lighting equipment
