HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Ordinance 1971-13VILLAGE OF PLYMOUTH ORDINANCE NO. 71- /3 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 2 OF CHAPTER VI OF THE VILLAGE CODE RELATING TO AMENDMENTS TO THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE CONCERNING INSTALLATIONS OF MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT ON ROOFS THE VILLAGE COJTNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF PLYMOUTH DOES ;;FREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Amendment of Village Code. Section 2, Chapter VI of the Village Code is hereby amended by adding the following thereto as Section 2.10: " . 2.10. Paragraph (n), Section 3305 of the Uniform Building Code is hereby repealed and the following substituted therefor: '. (n) Mechanical Equipment on Roof. Unless specifically exempted by the building official, due to space limitations, roof height above grade or other special considerations, all new and existing buildings on which any heating, air conditioning, refrigeration or other mechanical equipment is hereafter installed on the roof and which equipment in the opinion of said building official will require periodic inspection, service, maintenance or repair shall meet the following requirements: (i) A stair leading to a scuttle or bulkhead in the roof having such equipment shall be provided to make such equipment safely accessible. Said stair leading to the scuttle or bulkhead shall be placed at an angle of not more than 60 degrees to the horizontal, with flat steps not less than six inches in width and a minimum and maximum length of 24 inches at the tread. No riser shall be more than nine inches, and handrails shall be provided on both sides of the access stairs. However, where the Nertical distance from the roof surface to the floor below does not exceed 12 feet, a fixed metal ladder may be provided in lieu of said stair. (ii) The minimum opening of the scuttle or bulkhead shall be not less than six square feet in area with the minimum dimension being not less than two feet. In no case shall this required access be located in or pass through the elevator machine room. (iii) If water stands at the location of the equipment a suitable non-metallic service platform shall b -- provided above such water level. Equipment shall be located with at least six feet of clearance from the edge of the roof or similar hazards wherever possible. If the clearance is less than six feet, a suit- able rail or guard not less than forty-two inches in height shall be provided. (iv) Each unit of equipment shall have an accessible disconnect switch and a 110-120 volt AC ground type convenience outlet on the roof within 40 feet of each unit of equipment. Said convenience outlet shall not be de -energized by the equipment disconnect switch. (v) The electric service panels shall have clearance as required by the code applying thereto. All equipment in excess of 24 inches in height shall be screened.'" Section 2. Effective Date. This ordinance shall become effective upon its passage and publication.
