HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Ordinance 1970-38VILLAGE OF PLYMOUTH ORDINANCE NO. 70-38 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER VI, SECTION 2.06 OF THE VILLAGE CODE RELATING TO AUTOMATIC ALARM SYSTEMS. THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF PLYMOUTH DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Amendment of Code. Section 2.06 of Chapter VI of the Village Code is hereby amended by deleting said Section 2.06 and substituting the following therefor: "2.06 Amendment to Chapter 13 - Automatic Alarm Systems. Chapter 13 of the Uni orm Building Code, TTM Edition, o umne 1, is hereby amended to include the following as Section 1:310 thereof: '1310. (a) In addition to the requirements of Chapter 38 herein, each apartment house shall be equipped with an automatic fire detection alarm system and a manual fire alarm. (b) The automatic fire detection and alarm system must be installed in all enclosed stair wells, in all cor- ridors-, in all furnace rooms, in all incinerator rooms, storage rooms, laundry rooms, and all non -occupied rooms, and one in every apartment in the living room area. (c) The automatic alarm systems must comply with NFPA Standard No. 72 and be approved by a qualified recog- nized testing agency and to be installed in accordance with manufacturers recommendations. The electric service is to be installed on a separate circuit breaker to be painted red in color. An alarm bell or horn shall be installed on each floor and in the basement. A manual alarm box is to be installed at each exit of each floor and at any basement exit. (d) That magnetic door holders shall be required on all doors leading into enclosed stair wells and fire doors. Door holders to be wired tn aiarm system so that doors will', automatically close. This is to be retroactive and shall be installed in all building housing type H occupancy on or before January 1, 1972. (e) Such automatic fire detection system shall be installed and repaired by a licensed electrical contractor. Following its installation it shall be tested every three (3) months to determine that it is in working order. Such tests shall be made by persons qualified to repair such systems and a tag or other similar label shall be placed at or near the circuit breaker following such inspection as evidence of the inspection." i
