Special City Council Meeting
Tuesday, January 11, 2000
7:00 p.m.
Public Safety Training Room
A. Call to Order
B. Interview Candidates for Board and Commission Vacancies - 7:00 p.m.
C. Discuss Candidate Appointments - 8:45 p.m.
D. Adjourn
Agenda Number:
TO: Dwight D. Johnson, City Manager
FROM: Laurie Ahrens, Assistant City Mandjer, and Sandy Paulson, City Clerk
SUBJECT: Interview Board and Commission Applicants
DATE: January 5, 2000, for City Council meeting of January 11, 2000
1. ACTION REQUESTED: Interview applicants for board and commission vacancies.
2. BACKGROUND: Attached is the interview schedule for board and commission
applicants. We have tried to group the interviews generally by area of commission
interest. The individuals in Group 1 indicated Planning Commission as their first choice,
Group 2 indicated PRAC as a high choice, Group 3 indicated Environmental Quality
Committee, and Group 4 individuals expressed high interest in other commissions --
Human Rights, HRA, Public Safety, and Transit.
We did not receive a sufficient number of applications for the Advisory Committee on
Transit. In addition to the newsletter article, John Sweeney distributed applications to
individuals interested in transit. The City Council could appoint a few individuals to this
commission at this time, or all appointments to this Commission could be delayed until
there is improved interest in this commission.
3. RECOMMENDATION: At the conclusion of the interviews, I recommend that the
Council consider their desired slate of appointments. Staff will prepare a resolution for
consideration on the January 18 agenda.
