HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 1986-444CITY OF PLYMOUTH Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Plymouth, Minnesota was held on the 21st day of July , 1986. The following members were present: Mayor Schneider, Councilr-embers Crain, Sisk, Vasiliou, and Zitur The following members were absent: none Councilmember Crain introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 86- 444 ACTION RECOMMENDATIONS WITH RESPECT TO EXPANSION OF CITY'S MUNICIPAL WATER SYSTEM WHEREAS, in order to meet increasing demands on the Municipal Water System, it is necessary to provide additional supply (wells) and treatment; and WHEREAS, the City has received reports from various consulting engineers recommending various alternatives for expansion of the water system; and WHEREAS, it is recommended that the City diversify the supply system in order to provide water from at least two separate well fields in order to erasure a safer supply system; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to provide treatment of such water to ensure the continued delivery of the existing standard of treated water. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA: That it should and does adopt the following actions with regard to the expansion of the water system: 1. Bonestroo, Rosene, Anderlik and Associates, Inc. proceed with the drilling of four test wells at the various alternate well sites. These sites are to include Zachary Lane Playfield site, Mission site and Plymouth Creek site. A report on the result of the test wells at the various sites to provide the necessary water should be completed within 30 days. 2. After receipt of the report on the test well results, the City Council will authorize plans and specifications for wells 8 and 9 at either the North or one of the East well fields into the Jordon Acquifer with one constructed for easy retrofitting to the Mount SimonHinkley Acquifer. 3. The Council adopts the proposed treatment standard which would provide that at any time not less than SOX of the production capacity from the City's well fields will be treated, and that not more than 30% untreated water will be distributed to any portion of the community, except during emergencies. 4. Following the decision on where to locate Wells 8 and 9 a consulting engineering firm will be authorized to prepare a preliminary engineering report on providing additional treatment capacity. Following the completion of the feasibility report on additional treatment a consulting engineering firm will be directed to update the City's 1480 Water Distribution System Plan to reflect the policy decisions made above. The study would also determine the type and location of additional storage throughout the system. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing Resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember Vasiliou , and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Mayor Schneider, Councilmembers Crain, Vasiliou, and _Zitur The following voted against or abstained: Coin Whereupon the Reso'.ution was declared duly pas adopted.
