is adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 84- 258
SUPPORTING NATIONWIDE DAY OF ACTION
NATIONAL CAMPAIGN AGAINST TOXIC HAZARDS
WHEREAS, residents have the inherent right to be free from exposures to
polluted soils, water, and air; and
WHEREAS, residents have the right to know what chemicals people, industry, and
government are bringing into neighborhoods and workplaces, as well as how these
chemicals may affect their health; and
WHEREAS, residents have the right to safe, total cleanup of hazardous waste
sites and spills quickly; and
WHEREAS, residents have the right to public policy that prevents toxic pollution
from entering their neighborhoods through strong laws controlling toxic
substances and wastes and vigorous enforcement of those laws; and
WHEREAS, the Citizens Clearinghouse for Hazardous Wastes, along with the
Community League for Environmentally Acceptable Neighborhoods (CLEAN), supports
the designation of Saturday, May 5, 1984 as a Nationwide Day of Action to
make people aware that hazardous waste and toxic substances are not only
problems for industry and government, but are also problems for each one of us;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA, that we support the designation of Saturday, May 5, 1984 as
a Nationwide Day of Action and encourage the Governor and Legislature of the
State of Minnesota to take a firm stand to get the problem of hazardous waste
and toxic substances under control.
The motion for the adoption of the foregoing Resolution was duly seconded by
Counci lmember Moen , and upon vote being taken thereon, tTie
following vote n favor thereof: Mayor Schneider Councilmembers Moen,
Neils and Crain The following
voted against or abstained: none
Whereupon the Resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
