Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of
the City Council of the City of Plymouth, Minnesota, was held on the
19th day of January , 1981 The following members
were present: Mayor Davenport,ounc Tmeffi e`rs HoyT;--fVeils, Schneider & Threenen.
The following members were absent: None
Mayor Davenport introduced the following Resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 81-32
A RESOLUTION WELCOMING HOME THE 52 AMERICAN HOSTAGES FROM IRAN
WHEREAS, during the past 443 days, 52 of our fellow citizens have been
detained in Iran; and
WHEREAS, President Carter has informed a grateful nation that an agreement
has been negotiated providing for the prompt release of these citizens from
Iran; and
WHEREAS, during the course of this ordeal the moral strength of our nation
has been severely tested as we sought to withhold reacting in anger to the
actions on the part of the leadership of Iran; and
WHEREAS, the restraint shown by the American people to the actions on the
part of the Government of Iran demonstrates again the fundamental greatness
of our society in being able to appropriately deal with adversity and
provocation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA that the City of Plymouth warmly welcomes home the
52 Americans, and especially Bruce Laingen and Joseph Hall, who have been
detained in Iran and further wish them and their families our gratitude
and appreciation for the sacrifices they have borne during the past 443 days.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that President Carter and his associates be applauded
for their strength of purpose, patience and diplomacy which finally brought
about the release of our fellow citizens.
The motion for the adoption of the foregoing Resolution was duly seconded
Unanimously by the City Council, and upon vote being taken thereon, the
following voted in favor thereof: Mayor Davenport, Councilmembers Hoyt,
Neils, Schneider & Threinen

Whereupon the Resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
