RESOLUTION NO. 2005-046
USE OF PVC FOR WATERMAIN PIPES
WHEREAS, the current in-place DIP watermain, which is presently the City standard for
all new watermain installation, is not lasting to it's predicted life due to the corrosive
soils in Plymouth; and
WHEREAS, PVC is a proven watermain product which clearly meets the City's required
strength characteristics while also providing longevity due to it's ability to resist
corrosion; and
WHEREAS, government regulations have forced PVC manufacturers to comply with
strict operational procedures to eliminate associated health risks with the manufacturing
of the PVC; and
WHEREAS, the HRA has recommended the use of PVC watermain as it is less
expensive than DIP which supports their quest to provide affordable housing in the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA: That PVC is an approved watermain
material in the City and specifications for it will be included in the upcoming revised
Engineering Guidelines to be completed by the Engineering Department.
Adopted by the City Council on February 8, 2005.
