RESOLUTION NO. 2005-026
SUPPORTING THE "PUTTING FAMILY FIRST" COMM[_]NITY GROUP
WHEREAS, cities are vital partners with families in providing nurturing and safe
environments for children to learn and grow; and
WHEREAS, strong family relationships are a critically important factor in the health and
well-being of children and youth; and
WHEREAS, research by the University of Minnesota Medical School's Center for Adolescent
Health and Development reports that the more meals kids eat with their family, the less likely
they are to participate in high-risk behaviors; and
WHEREAS, there has been a major decline in free time for children over the past decade as
cited by the Survey Research Center at the University of Michigan; and
WHEREAS, families in Plymouth will benefit from a Families First evening during the school
year in an effort to focus on family life; and
WHEREAS, the City Council supports families who choose to set a night aside of no
homework, no meetings, no practices and no organized activities
NOW, THEREFORE, we the Mayor and Plymouth City Council do hereby support the
"PUTTING FAMILY FIRST" community group.
