RESOLUTION NO. 2005-011
APPROVING A CONTRACT ADDENDUM TO
EXTEND BY THREE YEARS THE CONTRACT WITH
WASTE MANAGEMENT, INC. FOR RECYCLING SERVICES
WHEREAS, the City of Plymouth, has in compliance with Hennepin County Ordinance
13, provided curbside and drop off recycling services for its residents since 1986; and
WHEREAS, the City of Plymouth has cooperated with the cities of Minnetonka and
Golden Valley since 1989 in contracting for these recycling services to benefit from the
efficiencies gained through a larger household base; and
WHEREAS, the present five-year contract for these services with Waste Management,
Inc. expires on December 31, 2005;
WHEREAS, the three cities have received excellent service, reasonable per -household
collection rates and rebates of 100% of the sale of recyclables, minus a processing fee
throughout the contract; and
WHEREAS, Waste Management, Inc. has agreed to extend the contract through
December 31, 2008, continuing the 3% annual increase in the curbside household rate, a
$3.60 per ton one-time increase in the processing fee and a $200 per month increase in
the drop off recycling rate; and
WHEREAS, this three-year extension would be a continuation of the cooperative effort
established between the City of Plymouth and the cities of Minnetonka and Golden
Valley,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF PLYMOUTH that the City of Plymouth authorizes the Mayor and City
Manager to enter into a three-year extension from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2008
of the contract for recycling services with Waste Management, Inc. as set forth in
Addendum No. I to Agreement for Recycling Collection Services.
