RESOLUTION 2006-393
APPROVING VARIANCE REQUEST BY CARIBOU COFFEE COMPANY, INC. TO
ALLOW ON-SITE DIRECTIONAL SIGNAGE WITH A CORPORATE LOGO FOR
PROPERTY LOCATED AT 4345 NATHAN LANE NORTH (2006078)
WHEREAS, an application has been filed by Caribou Coffee Company, Inc. which
requests approval of a variance to allow on-site directional signage with a corporate logo
for property legally described as follows:
Lot 1, Block 1, Holiday West Addition, according to the recorded plat thereof, Hennepin
County, Minnesota.
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission has reviewed the request at a duly called public
meeting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA, that it should and hereby does approve the
request by Caribou Coffee Company, Inc. for a variance to allow on-site directional
signage with a corporate logo for property located at 4345 Nathan Lane North, based on
the finding that the applicable variance standards have been met. Specifically:
1. This resolution approves a variance to allow on-site directional signage with a
corporate logo, in accordance with the plans received by the City on September 8,
2006, except as may be amended by this resolution.
2. The variance is approved with the findings that the applicable variance standards are
met, as follows:
a) The distinction between advertising and directional signage is a gray area.
b) The directional signage with a corporate logo would allow for identification by
non-English speakers.

c) The directional signage is important for safety.
3. A sign permit is required prior to the installation of the directional signs.
4. This approval shall expire one year after the date of approval, unless the property
owner or applicant has substantially started constriction of the project, or unless the
landowner or applicant has received prior approval from the City to extend the
expiration date for up to one additional year, as regulated under Section 21030.06 of
the Zoning Ordinance.
