HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2007-251CITY OF PLYMOUTH RESOLUTION 2007-251 RESOLUTION AFFIRMING ACTIVITY -FRIENDLY COMMITMENTS WHEREAS, the City of Plymouth is committed to the quality of life for residents, and WHEREAS, the first criteria listed on the Governor's Fit City Application is stated as: Criteria 1 (required). City must adopt a resolution affirming fit -friendly commitments by community leaders and elected officials. WHEREAS, Active Living is a way of life that integrates physical activity into daily routines. The goal is to accumulate at least 30 minutes of activity each day. Individuals may do this in a variety of ways such as walking or bicycling for transportation, exercise or pleasure; playing in the park; working in the yard; taking the stairs; and using recreation facilities; and WHEREAS, the City of Plymouth affirms activity -friendly commitments such as: ■ Maintenance and continued development of a cohesive system of parks and trails, incorporating accessible neighborhood parks. ■ Maintenance and continued development of recreation areas, parks, playgrounds and playfields. ■ Ensure that physical activity facilities (community center, ice arena, trails, etc.) are accessible and affordable. ■ Ensure that indoor facilities (community center, ice arena, pools, etc.) are available for cold season activity, that is open and accessible to all ages. • Support city programs and events that encourage active living. • Commit to building community awareness about locations, services and organizations dedicated to fitness/physical activity. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Plymouth is committed to providing an activity friendly community to its residents. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby authorizes the application for The Governor's Fit City Program. Adopted by the City Council on June 12, 2007.
