APPROVING A VARIANCE FOR DONALD SALMELA AND DIANNE SALMELA FOR A
GARAGE ADDITION FOR PROPERTY LOCATED AT 5125 FORESTVIEW LANE NORTH

WHEREAS, an application has been filed by Donald Salmela and Dianne Salmela which requests
approval of a variance for an attached garage addition that would encroach 9 feet into the
required 15 -foot side yard setback, for property legally described as follows:
Lot 20, Block 3, Schmidt Lake Woods, Hennepin County, Minnesota.
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission has reviewed the request at a duly called public meeting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA, that it should and hereby does approve the request of Donald
Salmela and Dianne Salmela for a variance to allow a third stall garage addition that would
encroach 9 feet into the required 15 -foot side yard setback for property located at 5125
Forestview Lane North, based upon the following finding:
Due to several large trees in the rear yard and the slope of the rear yard, the only
feasible location for additional storage space is in the side yard adjacent to the
existing garage—creating a hardhip for the applicants in locating additional
accessory storage space on the site. This condition is somewhat unusal in the
RSF-I district. Furthermore, the requested addition would not be detrimental to
the public welfare or injurious to other land in the neighborhood, nor would it
impair an adequate supply of light and air, increase congestion, increase the danger
of fire, endanger the public safety, or substantially diminish property values within
the neighborhood.
