HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Resolution 2023-298 C ITY OF P LYMOUTH R ESOLUTION N O. 2023-298 R ESOLUTION A PPROVING T HREE-Y EAR C ONTRACT E XTENSION WITH R EPUBLIC S ERVICES FOR R ECYCLING S ERVICES AND A DDING A F OUR-Y EAR T ERM FOR C ITY-O RGANIZED C URBSIDE C OLLECTION OF S OURCE-S EPARATED O RGANIC M ATERIAL WHEREAS, the current Municipal Recycling Services Agreement with Republic Services, effective January 1, 2019, is set to expire December 31, 2024, for traditional single sort curbside recycling; and WHEREAS, the contract allows for a three-year extension; and WHEREAS, on September 26, 2023 the City Council Authorized negotiation of a recycling contract extension including adding city led curbside organic collection with Republic Services through December 31, 2027; and WHEREAS, the contract extension has been drafted and reviewed by city staff, the City Attorney, and authorized representatives from Republic Services; and WHEREAS, all residential customers will be charged a fee for curbside organics recycling collection – regardless of whether or not they utilize the offered service; and WHEREAS, Republic Services will begin curbside organics services on March 6, 2024; and WHEREAS, Republic Services has the ability to perform services defined in the contract. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA that: 1) The Mayor and City Manager are authorized and directed to enter into a contract extension with Allied Waste Services of North America, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company d/b/a Republic Services of the Twin Cities-Eden Prairie in the name First Amendment to Agreement for Municipal Recycling Services for recycling contract extension including adding city led curbside organic collection. 2) Funding will be through the Solid Waste Fund. APPROVED by the City Council on this 28th day of November 2023.
