Item: Review the Proposed Phase 1 Construction Plan of the Hilde
Performance Center and Give Direction to Staff
1. ACTION REQUESTED:
Council shall review the proposed project and provide direction to staff on how to proceed.
2. BACKGROUND:
On October 3, the City Council passed a resolution authorizing work to begin on the preparation of
plans and specifications for the improvements to the site interior of the Hilde Performance Center, an
amount not exceed $1.2 million from the Community Improvement Fund. Council asked us to report
back to you on December 8 with an update on what exactly would be included in this Phase 1 of
work. Attached for Council review is a colored map showing the areas that would go under
construction during Phase 1. I have also included a total concept plan for the project so you can see
the difference between the total plan and the phased plan. We have also included a detailed budget
breakout which indicates a base bid and an alternate bid for the project.
George Watson from Brauer & Associates will be present at the meeting to walk you through the
design and what will be involved in each phase of the construction work. Almost all of the work
contemplated in this phase will directly increase the seating and improve the usability of the site for
Music in Plymouth and, of course, other events. Two areas of high importance are increasing the
seating for almost 3,000 people and having better vending areas to serve the large crowd of Music in
Plymouth. I have also included the schedule for the project which would indicate that we would be
able to touch back with the Council in January if you would like.
We have not begun any detail design work on the project at this time. Staff would welcome any
input from the Council on items that you think should be either deleted or added to the project at this
time.
